Formal mindfulness course

The formal mindfulness course. The early weeks concentrate on building our focus and awareness through concentration on the breath, and building mindfulness into daily life. We gradually move deeper, tuning in to our bodies, before exploring difficult thoughts and feelings.

After weeks 4 and 8, there will be an opportunity to reflect on the course and provide feedback.

Outline of eight-week course

Week 1 –                Waking up, introduction to mindfulness, with formal and informal practice

Week 2 –                Awareness of our bodies, understanding our thoughts and feelings

Week 3                  Focus on the body, moving with mindful awareness

Week 4                  Choosing how you react, noticing sounds, thoughts, unpleasant feelings

Week 5                  Being with what is difficult, working with unpleasant thoughts and feelings

Week 6                  Making meaning out of thoughts and feelings, how we develop resilience

Week 7                  Accepting silent space, creating space to be accepting of ourselves

Week 8                  The power of compassion, developing loving kindness for ourselves/others
